Diane and Stan’s Journey: Entry #3

In the middle of grief and loss there is also Joy.  Yesterday afternoon at about 4:15 p.m. Diane’s mother Hazelle finished the race and received the commendation, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”  Hazelle was truly a servant of others with the spiritual gift of service (Romans 12) and this was definitely her “seat of joy.”

Even now as I write this I hear Diane and her sister-in-law upstairs going through Hazelle’s cedar chest.  I hear a lot of reminiscing and laughter.  Yes, joy and loss can be present at the same time.

Yesterday’s attempt to draw the fluid from under Diane’s left lung was not very successful as they were only able to get 6 cc’s instead of the liter or two that they wanted.  Today’s Pet Scan seemed to go much better, but now we wait until Thursday morning for the results.

Diane had a hard time going to sleep last night.  All she needed was to be held and soon she was receiving God’s gift of sleep.

  1. One of my favorite movies is “Defending your life” have you seen it? The story goes, a guy dies on his birthday and goes to a holding place for a few days, to decide where he goes next. He has an attorney and they watch different scenes from his life, on a big screen. He was mostly afraid to stand up for himself or others. In one life, at the Past Lives Pavilion, he was running from a tiger, when asked what he was doing he said “I’m lunch”.
They judged that he wasn’t worthy of the wonderful place that Meryl Streep was going to. Yes, Meryl Streep was in the movie too and he fell for her.
Meryl’s life was one of courage, gentleness and love. they showed her rescuing her children from a burning home, then going back to get the mother cat and baby kittens and other wonderful things she did in her life.
It’s a fun movie, I used to have church groups come to my house to watch it.
I’ve always known that I’m not alone, God, Jesus is watching over me and I know that Diane has had a much more valiant, giving life than mine. You are a fighter, your smart , speak well, know just the right words. You could have played Meryl Streep’ s role. You are one of the good ones. I pray for you every day. I hope you sleep well and are at peace, you’ve brought so much to others.
We send our love to you. Lynn and John DeBoo
